SAGES Educator's Lunch
The Effectiveness of Communication Technology on Surgical Education
Time: 12:30 - 2:00 PM
Program Coordinator: Raymond P. Onders, MD
Panelists: Frederick Greene, MD, Adrian Park, MD, Gretchen Purcell, MD
This luncheon is designed for attendees who are involved in training surgical residents, medical students and practicing surgeons. The expert panel will discuss the use of communication technology in education, providing insight into the following questions.
Can medical students or residents learn from live tele-surgery or will they sleep?
Should you offer teleconferencing or telemedicine or will there be too many empty chairs?
Do your residents have immediate on-line access for pressing clinical problems or do you wish they would at least read a book?
If your facility does not have these technology capabilities will archeologists be visiting soon?
Can a PalmPilot actually be used for education and not just games?
Does this new technology actually make safer and better surgeons than the last 100 years of the Halstedian apprenticeship model?
