2010 Career Development Application Now Available

The SAGES Career Development Award application is now available on the SAGES website. A new process has been instituted for the grants this year-all applications must be submitted online through your SAGES member account.

For more information on award guidelines and the online application click here.

Eligible applicants must be SAGES candidate members (including residents and Fellows), or SAGES members early in their faculty appointment (within five years of completed training). The focus of this award is to provide funding for a young surgeon or surgeon-in-training for the development of critical skills required for their academic career in gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgery. The intent of this award is to delay the start of a faculty role or ongoing residency training for supplemental training/traveling fellowship or intense research time. This grant will provide the awardee with a unique educational opportunity that would not otherwise be available. Awards are conferred on a competitive basis by submission of a grant application, which is reviewed and evaluated by the SAGES Research and Career Development Committee and approved by the Governing Board. The award will be $60,000 to support travel, salary, and/or tuition. (Note: The salary support portion of the grant will be taxable)

The deadline for submission is Friday, November 6, 2009 at 5pm Eastern time. The applications will be reviewed in February and the top three candidates will interview in February/March. A decision for funding will be announced during the award ceremony at the 2010 Wold Congress of Endoscopic Surgery, hosted by SAGES & CAGS, April 14-17, 2010.
